Hello, I’m Gunjan Patel — a Software Engineer based in Copenhagen

With over 17 years of experience in software engineering, I specialize in building robust, scalable, and high‑performance systems — especially within E‑commerce, cloud platforms, and data‑driven architectures. My career has spanned software development, engineering leadership, data platforms, and work environment representation, giving me a uniquely well‑rounded perspective on both technology and people.

I work confidently across multiple programming languages, including Go, C#, PHP (Laravel, Symfony, Zend), and Python, and with databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, NoSQL stores, MSSQL, and more. I also bring hands‑on cloud experience with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, building reliable infrastructures and integrating complex ERP systems and payment gateways to support business‑critical systems.

Professional Journey

Over the years, I’ve worked on:

  • Designing and maintaining cloud‑native systems (Azure, AWS)
  • Architecting scalable backend platforms and microservices
  • Managing data engineering pipelines, ETL flows, and master data systems
  • Optimizing search experiences using Algolia and Elasticsearch
  • Automating onboarding of millions of product data points using ML/AI
  • Integrating SAP, Salesforce, Mirakl, Magento, and other enterprise systems
  • Leading backend development for E‑commerce platforms, including payments, shipping, tax, performance optimization, and DevOps tasks
  • Mentoring junior developers and defining engineering processes that strengthen teams

My time as a Work Environment Representative further strengthened my communication, conflict resolution, and leadership skills—helping create safer and healthier workplaces.

Open Source & Community Work

Community has been a major part of my journey. I was an active contributor and volunteer with the Joomla! Project for several years, serving as:

  • Joomla! Bug Squad Member
  • Google Summer of Code Mentor (2014 & 2016), guiding students and improving Joomla CMS workflows
  • Founder & Manager of Joomla! User Network Ahmedabad (JUG Ahmedabad)
  • SQL Optimization Team Co‑ordinator within Joomla!
  • Frequent speaker on Joomla and Open Source at universities in Ahmedabad

Even though I am not currently active in the Joomla community, I still value the friendships and experiences gained during those years.

Leadership Beyond Tech

Outside my technical career, I’ve served as Chairman of RBL Edifice Co‑Operative Housing Society, contributing to community governance, conflict resolution, and policy development.

These roles shaped my ability to bring people together, build consensus, and lead with empathy and structure.
